Small-Town Vacation Spots That Are Worth It

Vacationing in America can be an incredible experience. You can either choose to go to all the touristy locations or venture out to something entirely new and different. Sometimes, finding small-town spots can be more challenging than you think.

The last thing you want to do is turn up in a small town with absolutely nothing to do. It can be very far in a different direction to the vacation that you’ve been dreaming of. But you don’t have to have a bad experience!

We’ve found five small-town vacation spots that you’d probably never think of – but are worth it! Whether you’re going on a family vacation or a road trip with your friends, these are some fantastic small town locations that you’ll love!

Beaufort, South Carolina

Our first small-town vacation spot is Beaufort, South Carolina. Sight see in the city with the Beaufort walking tour, or even trot around the town by horse and carriage! 

Did you know that Beaufort, South Carolina was the famous filming location for the beloved film Forrest Gump? You can explore the filming locations for not only this but so many other big-time Hollywood films. 

Beaufort also has the most beautiful waterways. Getting involved in water sports like kayaking and paddle boarding should undoubtedly be on the agenda. 

If you want to know more about the history of Beaufort, you could visit the Beaufort History Museum or visit one of the churches for more historical landmarks.

Bisbee, Arizona

Often or not, most people haven’t heard of Bisbee, Arizona. It doesn’t have any famous attractions or near a national park, but there’s so much that this small town has to offer. 

Suppose you’re thinking about heading out in the summer; Bisbee hosts a variety of annual events.

  • In June, wave your flag for Bisbee Pride, watch parades, races, and booming fireworks
  • In July, or join the Pirates of the High Desert or Altered Book Show in August. 

There are tons of museums, tours, and history for you to explore. If you’re a foodie, there are a range of markets where you can pick up your favorite goods.

The High Desert Market and Cafe, Mimosa Market, and Poco (this one’s a vegan restaurant and grocery, but still a great experience, nonetheless!

Especially if you enjoy learning about history, Bisbee, Arizona is a lovely and authentic small-town spot with much to experience, even if it’s only for a few days.

Davis, Oklahoma

If you’re visiting Oklahoma, you might want to make a stop at Davis. It’s located within a reasonable driving distance of three of Oklahoma’s top cities, including Dallas, Tulsa, and Oklahoma City. So, if you want to see them, you could make Davis a pit stop. 

If you love sightseeing, then you’ll love Davis! You can visit the picturesque scenes all around, including Turner Falls Park, where you can see Oklahoma’s largest waterfall. 

Not only can you follow round the trails and explore the sights exactly how you want, but you can also stay overnight and camp in this gorgeous park too!

Eureka Springs, Arkansas

If you want a peaceful, relaxing vacation, then you might want to visit Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Visit Eureka Springs waterways for the perfect little vacation spot. Camping, walking trails, fishing lakes, you name it, Eureka Springs has it!

You can visit Lake Leatherwood and experience the incredible nature trails that Eureka Springs has to offer. If you’re a fan of mountain biking, then you’ll love this place. There are so many trails for you to get lost in the breathtaking views.

Head downtown to the streets of Eureka Springs and explore the art galleries, unique shops, and boutiques. 

Eureka Springs has a little something for everyone and makes a spectacular location for your next vacation. 

Whitefish, Montana

Whitefish, Montana has been named one of the ‘Top 25 Ski Towns in the World’ and is home to Whitefish Lake and Whitefish Mountain Resort. 

If you love a good sense of adventure, then Whitefish, Montana, might be the next best small-town spot for you.

Get actively involved in Whitefish’s sports, including hiking, skiing, snowboarding, and boating. 

If that’s not your thing, then don’t worry – there’s still something for you too! Whether you want to dine in the restaurants or coffee houses, browse the large variety of shops, or watch some live theater, Whitefish is packed with things for you to do.

All the while, you can take in the astounding views and enjoy every single moment.

There we have it! 5 Small Towns that are worth a visit! While you might not be able to spend loads and loads of time in some of these locations, they’re an insight into the world that you don’t often see.

America is filled with a whole range of tourist traps. And sometimes these remote locations go unnoticed. Even if you feel more comfortable going to the more prominent places, you could always add them to your itinerary and stay, even if only for a short while.

You’re likely to have a much more authentic experience of America by seeing sights like these rather than an overrated tourist attraction. You never know – you might be surprised at how much these small-town spots have to offer!
