How To Travel the World on a Budget

Traveling is the best way of experiencing what the world has to offer. Going to different countries often presents learning experiences, especially discovering cultures that are different from your own. Aside from learning about a new culture, you also get to see beautiful places that you don’t get to see on your everyday commute.

Usually, what hinders people from traveling is the budget. You need to set aside a budget for food, hotel, plane tickets, and other activities.

If you want to find out how you can journey around the world on a budget, then this article is for you.

Here are the following tips you can do to travel the world without spending a lot of money.

Know What You Want and What You Need As You Start Planning

This is the first step in planning your adventure.

It’s advisable to list what you need as you travel around the world and set a budget for it. Then, you need to stick to the budget.

For example, some people are okay with living in hostels and squeezing in cramped spaces, while others would prefer to stay in a more luxurious hotel.

Before you travel, you need to list down what you need or what you want your travel experience to be like and choose the things you can splurge on. From there, set a budget for all your needs.

For example, you can stay at a hostel or a friend’s house, so you can spend more money on fun activities, buying souvenirs, or spend on a good dessert. You can also make your meals at home, so you don’t have to spend a lot of money on meals.

Sure, some people like to travel luxuriously. If you’re tight on budget, you need to consider prioritizing what you really want in your travel experience.

Remember, you are traveling because of the experience. Everything else is something you can compromise.

Visit Countries with Affordable Prices

The world is a vast place with so many beautiful and exotic sights to see, and the good news is that you don’t have to spend a lot of money to visit some of these tourist spots.

Before traveling, you should also consider the expenses you might have to spend in a certain country since dollars, euros, and pounds may be worth a lot in other countries. For example, you can spend $20 on a single meal in New York City or London. With that same amount, you can buy a lot after spending one whole day in countries like Indonesia, Vietnam, or the Philippines — more ideas here from NomadicMatt

Here are some of the cheap countries to visit.

1. If you want to travel to Asia, consider visiting Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Laos.

2. If you are interested in visiting countries near or in Europe, go to Ukraine, the Baltic States (Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania), Turkey, Romania, and Morocco.

3. If you are considering the Americas, you can go to Mexico, Colombia, Guatemala, and Cuba.

Find Cheaper Flights

This is one of the most painfully obvious advice. Airfare can get pricey, especially when you plan to travel in places miles away from home.

When traveling on a budget, research cheaper flights and plane tickets since it’s easy to save money on them. If you’re new on travel, no matter how much you paid on a ticket, you’ll pretty much get the same experience anyway, so it is best to purchase the cheapest plane ticket possible.

Google Flights is a good tool when finding cheap plane tickets since it indicates how much you can save on a ticket. The downside of using this is that Google Flights does not display tickets from every airline, so you still need to do a little more research.

You can also use Kayak and Priceline. You can run through a flight comparison search. In addition to that, Priceline provides a feature called Name Your Own Price, where you can look for tickets within your budget. However, you have to be flexible on your departure and arrival dates.

If you plan to travel a lot, you can also sign up for a rewards program and rack up points. Once you gather enough points, you can use the points to avail of a free plane ticket and enjoy many perks your program provides.

Visit During Off-Season

If you opt to visit a tourist destination, popular places can be cheaper during its off-season. For example, Indonesia is more affordable during its monsoon season, which is typically from November to March. Another example is Japan. The country’s off-season for travel is typically from late fall until March.

Visiting a country during its off-season can be significantly more affordable and less crowded, which makes it very convenient when traveling on a budget.

Some Final Thoughts Before Starting Your Adventures

When traveling within your budget, it never hurts to do a lot of research, planning, and setting a travel allowance. It’s also important to be flexible as some of the best deals can come at an unexpected time.

Now that you have figure out a way to travel within your budget, it’s time to start your journey.
