It's definitely a great time to buy if you happen to be in the market, but I wouldn't promote looking just because you get a tax credit. Too many uneducated home owners is a dangerous thing.

Thanks for the comment, Paul.

Good read on renting. Great detail.
It appears most of your readers are US readers. With condo prices so low, interest rates so low and with the first time home buyers tax credit available many American renters would be well served to investigate the first time home buyers tax credit. Normally I would not touch a condo with a 10 foot pole but if you get a sweet enough deal buy it. Owning beats a box of rent receipts.

Great advice. I quickly mentioned that in the lease section, but it probably deserves more of an explanation.

Maintenance costs can really add up and cause a headache if it's not clear who is in charge of fixing/paying for what. It's also a good idea to be on the good side of your landlord, and a fight over this isn't worth the time.

Thanks, Craig!

Also ask about maintenance issues and how that will be resolved. The apt manager should handle all of that but make sure you know what types of things they will take care of so you're not stuck with it if something happens.
