FF’s Link Roundup: September 2009

This week was my first time partaking in a festival of personal finance so I thought I would stick with a theme of firsts and do my first weekly blog round-up. Below you’ll find my favorite reads from around the web. Enjoy!

FiveCentNickel wrote a great post about the the 80/20 rule and how you can relate it to your life. For those who don’t know, the rule states that 80% of effects are due to 20% of causes. I was first introduced to this idea in The 4-Hour Workweek and since then I constantly come across it in my everyday life. Understanding how this rule interacts with your life is important for getting the most out of your time and being an efficient and effective person. This is a must-read, “The Pareto Principle and Building a Better You“.

Being conscious of your credit score is one of the quickest ways to save hundreds of thousands of dollars in your life. Your future house, car, and jobs can depend heavily on your score so it’s important to understand how it works. In a post titled, 5 Ways to Improve Your Credit Score“, PT Money breaks down what makes up your credit score and what steps you can take to improve it.

Yahoo rules Japan, but I’m a big fan of Google products and was blown away by some of the stats in this article at the Wall Street Journal blog, “Where Google is Really Big: India and Brazil.” This is an eye-opening look at how gigantic Google has already become.

The Digiteria Life shares what she’s learned about investing over at Bill Shrink. These are sound tips that will have your elderly self thanking you one day. Check out, “Lessons I’ve Learned as a Long Term Investor.”

My article about saving money on hotels and hostels, “How I Saved $65 with a 5 Minute Phone Call” was featured in this week’s Carnival of Personal Finance over at Simple Forty’s. As always, a great mix of posts!

My New Favorite Blog: The Happiness Project. Gretchen’s inspiring writing is like a kick in the butt from a close friend everyday. Her posts add energy to my day and offer a fresh perspective to the blogging community.

Thanks for the mention, Austin. Keep submitting to carnivals and festivals. One of the best ways to grow your blog, along with linking out to me of course. ;)
