Here are some interesting posts I’ve enjoyed over the last week. Also, make sure to read about my upcoming interview series, the ESL Virtual Job Fair.

Bargainnering - Are You Earning Your Bargaineering Bucks?

This is a brilliant little idea that Jim over at Bargaineering calls a “loyalty rewards program”. You, the reader, receive “Bargainnering Bucks” for becoming a member of his site, commenting, or signing up for his e-mail newsletter. Once you have some ‘Bucks’ saved up, you can bid on a variety of items from personal finance books, to ING referral links, to copies of Quicken.

There’s really no downside to this. It’s just a creative idea to get people engaged in his site and repeatedly coming back. I’ll admit, I signed up today and I’m already up to 12 Bargainnering Bucks! Here I come ING referral links…

Seth Godin’s BlogWhat You Buy When You Buy a Lottery Ticket

The part in this mini-post by Seth about the journey of blog posts really resonated with me. Far too often I try to rush through different parts of my life in order to get my ‘to-do’ list finished. What’s the rush? Enjoy the journey and you’ll be far better off.

Dual Income No KidsWhen $110 Million Isn’t Enough

Michael at DINK Finance sums up the recent article about ex-NBAer Antoine Walker’s money troubles. It’s a fascinating look at what it means to be “rich”.

StudenomicsWhy College Is the Best Time to Start a Business

Last week I wrote a guest post for Man vs. Debt that talked about my experiences starting a small side business in college. This post at Studenomics draws on the same idea and dives into why college students have the best conditions for starting a business. In short, life is easy and free time is plentiful so take advantage of it!

- Blog You Must Check Out: Study Hacks

It should be mandatory that every college freshman has to make Study Hacks their homepage. Cal at SH provides insightful tips into how to dominate studying, test taking, and the entire college experience. After reading five articles on his blog, I actually got upset that I wasn’t in college to implement his ideas and systems.

Regardless, the tips at Study Hacks can be used for anyone who has a large work load on their calendar, or a big project they can’t seem to get done. He’s also an MIT postdoc – so you can definitely trust him.

Money Crashers hosted the Carnival of Personal Finance #228

My post about frightening credit card facts ran over at Money Crasher’s Halloween themed carnival. On a side note, the carnival ran on my birthday. Happy birthday to me.

- Foreigner’s Finances will also be hosting its first blog carnival – the Twenty Something Finances Carnival on Monday November, 9th. If you’re eligible, get your submissions in soon! The deadline is 11:59 P.M. EST, that’s Friday (tonight) at midnight.

ESL Virtual Job Fair

Finally, FF will soon be starting a new series tentatively called the ESL Virtual Job Fair.

I’m going into my third month of teaching ESL and I would suggest this job to anyone at anytime in their life. With so many able workers sitting at home searching for jobs, I thought it would be fitting to start the Virtual Job Fair as a chance for you to learn about about different ESL positions available.

Every week I will interview a different ESL teacher and blogger from around the globe and give you the chance to learn about the ins and outs of their job. Topics covered will be the average work day, salary, cost of living, travel opportunities, and much more.

There are an incredible amount of ESL jobs available, and hopefully the ESL Virtual Job Fair will give you a chance to hear someone talk about their job, and maybe you’ll find one that sparks your interest. If you’re not interested in teaching ESL, I’m sure the interviews will still be an interesting introduction to a new country, and maybe you’ll find a place you want to visit someday.

Look for the first interview by next week. If you or someone you know would be interested in being interviewed, contact me at austin (at) foreignersfinances (dot) (com)

My girlfriend and I are hosting our first Mexican Dinner Fiesta in Japan tomorrow. Wish us luck and have a great weekend!
