Less than 10%, but there would be no disadvantage of doing it in your 30s. They don't choose base on ages, it just happens more people right out of college apply.

My advice - go for it!

If you have any other questions about the job/program, don't hesitate to ask her or email me at austinhmorgan@gmail.com.

Thanks for the info. Just curious - how many ALTs are in their 30s? I'm approaching the age cutoff and was curious how much my age would put me at a disadvantage.

Thanks.

Yeah, at least 4-5 years. I'm in Tokyo now, and most of the direct hires here (what few there are) are veterans with 10+ years under their belts.

The direct hires I know of have been here 4-5 years. Is that true everywhere, Dan?

Direct hire means that the Board of Education of the city hire you directly, instead of using JET or a go-between company. Because there is no overhead (with managers and recruiters and whatnot in JET etc), the ALT receives more money. Direct hire jobs are very rare and usually very competitive.
